Process Of Enrolling A Substance Abuse Inpatient
When the intervention process has taken place and an addict has began to realize that their
addiction is a serious problem, the natural next step is for a rehabilitation clinic to be sought in order for a
person to be able to get the help that they need.
Different people require different treatments in order for them to be able to achieve sobriety. Generic
treatments for those who present with an addiction to drugs or alcohol are a thing of the past – this is because
the circumstances that different people have regarding their dependency have meant that some people couldn’t
benefit from the treatment they were receiving too well. Now, more intensive checks are conducted on new patients
in order to get a better idea of the level of care which would need to be provided.
Some rehabilitation clinics have began to conduct tests on prospective patients in order to discover the extent
of their addiction. Through urinalysis, the study of urine, a number of different things can be established
regarding a substance abuse inpatient’s habits. For example, the strength of the drugs or alcohol they have been
consuming can be determined; how frequently drug consumption has been occurring can be determined; and the last fix
can also be established.
Urinalysis is understood to be the tip of the iceberg with the tactics which are used in order to gauge a
person’s drug consumption. Other body samples like hair and sweat can also be used to assess a person’s addiction,
with each method having their own individual advantages. For example, hair can be better for assessing an addiction
over a longer period of time – with follicle samples being able to detect substance abuse up to three months prior
to the test. This is in contrast to urine, which can only gauge the drugs consumed a couple of days prior to the
examination in a best case scenario.
Someone who has a severe drug addiction which involves multiple consumption sessions on a daily basis is clearly
going to need more treatment than someone who has seen their recreational use get a little out of hand. Those who
are far into the phases of addiction could have lost their livelihoods, their families, and could have even lost a
significant part of their social lives.
There are usually two different methods of treatment which are used for addicts in general: outpatient and
inpatient programs. Substance abuse inpatient treatments aim to provide care for those who have had more severe
encounters with drugs in the past and, as a result, need a more intensive plan of care. As a result, inpatients can
find that they are expected to live on a rehabilitation clinic’s premises as they are treated.
Meanwhile, outpatient programs can allow a person to remain living at home whilst they attend frequent meetings
in order to receive guidance and support which can aid their progress. The journey on the road to sobriety can be a
long one – however, receiving the right rehabilitative care can make it a lot simpler.
